About
the artist
Dale Pesmen paints, draws, and makes collages. She has a PhD in cultural
anthropology (1998, University of Chicago) and wrote a book based on
her perestroika-era research in Siberia, Russia and Soul:
an Exploration (Cornell University Press, 2000), as well as many
anthropological articles. She teaches English and art, designs and runs
cultural diversity workshops and courses in American accent for corporations
and individuals, and translates from Russian to English. She can be
contacted at pesmen2001@yahoo.com -- and would love to know what you
think of these sketches!
About these drawings
These sketches are inspired by photographs of the 2005 offspring of
a pair of urban peregrine falcons, Mariah and Kaver, who nest on the
Kodak tower in Rochester, NY. My gratitude to the wonderful Kodak team
that runs the Birdcam as well as to all groups and individuals who sponsor
and participate in related efforts to study and protect these magnificent
birds, including the many I have met on the Kodak site’s beautifully-run
public discussion board. These drawings are quite different from my
usual work -- I have put them on my site in order to be able to easily
share them with my new friends from this DB.
It has been an amazing falcon season.
A
little gift for fellow Mac users
On
the bottom row of drawings there's a stuffit file you can download -
three falcon icons made by my friend and web designer Mikhail Mokeyev
(my website is pesmen.com). Two
of the icons are of my Skye and Fulmine drawings, one's an adult falcon.
They're quite nice in OSX, but he's forcing me to mention that they're
just "quick and dirty" icons, not superfancy ones. |
